History of FBC Media Ministry
Our Media Ministry and the service provided to the local community and surrounding areas started with the tape-delayed transmission of an audio recording. This recorded audio on tape of our morning worship services was hand-delivered to a local radio station WFMH, who then transmitted to eager listeners throughout the City of Cullman, Cullman County and surrounding areas.
Then, in the early 1970s our delayed airing of the worship services was transitioned to another radio station - WRSA in Huntsville. This change increased the listening audience by several fold, accelerating the demand for services available from the media ministry. In the mid-1970s, our ministry reached a significant milestone in the media services it could provide to the community: Our first live audio broadcast of the morning worship service was transmitted by WRSA to radio listeners. Another milestone quickly followed when video was added to our capability. After purchasing a video camera, we started video taping the morning worship service and a few volunteers delivered these video recordings to area hospitals to play on their in-house systems. The live audio broadcast of our worship services by WRSA continued throughout most of the 1980s until audio yielded to video broadcasting.
The media ministry continued to grow significantly and a low-power TV station was established in 1993 TV 52.
First Cullman Broadcasting was incorporated in 1993 with First Baptist Church Cullman as the sole stockholder, Bylaws were adopted, and a 15-member Board of Directors was elected.
TV 52 was named Family Net Low Power Affiliate of the Year in 1996.
During the next years, our viewing area expanded to several cable affiliates. Following the death of Michael Whipple, Linda Pesto managed the station until Andy Stevens joined us in 2001. During his tenure, programming broadened and the station changed to TV 27. In 2006 a decision was made to put the ministry under leadership of a Station Manager. Windell Wood was the first person hired for this position. Michael Hutchens currently serves in this capacity.
